Read below to learn a little about where we focus when manufacturing Laptop backpacks

In a bag such as a briefcase, or laptop bag as demonstrated here it is the zipper that is exposed to the most consistent use. The fabric, as a medium denier, standard grade polyester will easily stand up to the task of carrying a laptop and a few books around all day. It is the zipper that needs to be a tried and tested component, as it will be opened and closed countless times a day. If the zipper fails, the bag is no longer useful and your product has suffered

There are two leading zipper manufacturers in the world. The first is YKK and the second is SBS. YKK is a Japanese company and SBS a Chinese company. Both are market leaders in terms of quality and market share, with YKK more vertically integrated, but SBS producing huge volume. Given our placement in China we prefer to use SBS, but if you have a specific requirement for YKK we can arrange. Don't take any second chances when it comes to arranging raw materials for production. With almost 10 years experience in China and off shore manufacturing we are the only choice to assure both quality and price.

When making these sorts of bags (such as briefcases and laptop bags) production is relatively straight forward, with minimal processes and out sourced manufacturing of components. Other than the issue of the zippers, which we mentioned earlier, it is the job of the factory to have access to good industrial sewing machines that operate with stronger needles to avoid nesting and loosening of the stitching. If working with neoprene, which is now particularly common for laptop bags, and carriers it is important to glue the seams together first prior to stitching to avoid stretching of the material.

Relevant to the order of laptop bags, quality control here should be focused around two core areas. Firstly, the zippers need to be confirmed as satisfactory standard. We only recommend to use SBS zippers. By overseeing the delivery of those zippers to the factory, that is one vital aspect of the product control taken care of. Looking at the product, you can see it is nowhere near as complicated to make as a hiking backpack or cycling bag. However the tougher material may present some problems in stitching and special attention should be taken care to look for (and even check) broken needles.  Many factories overlook broken needle testing as it takes time and more often than not they don't have the machine or a safe area to conduct testing. The Idea Lab is very passionate about broken needle testing, as broken needles occur more often than you might think. If you are unsure about how to set up your quality control with your order, you are in the right place.
